It's only Tuesday.

Photobucket

Here we go. A quick, slightly half-assed, new blog post. I surprise myself that I'm even capable of creating something (even this lame) on a computer after staring at a computer ALL DAY LONG.

It snowed quite a bit today, which made my post-work evening enormously less productive. I don't mind the snow, however I tend to enjoy it the most from the warmth of my cozy apartment. More specifically my couch. Therefore I did not: go to the gym, buy a birthday card for my Aunt, clean my room, revise my resume, search for jobs, paint my nails, or buy groceries as I intended to do this fine Tuesday evening. Since I've chosen this route, I will now spend the remainder of the night simultaneously watching Family Guy and browsing fashion blogs.

When I was 16 I dreamed of moving to Seattle to pursue journalism, more specifically music-related writing. I longed to surround myself with like-minded, angst-ridden, punk rockers that shared my love for rebellion, baggy clothes, studded belts and loud music. Even though it was 2005, in my mind, Seattle was still ablaze with flannel, grunge, and grease. My mom repeatedly warned me that living in a cloudy, dreary environment would affect me greatly having grown up in sunny Arizona, but I repeatedly ignored her advice.

THIS STORY HAS A POINT.

Flash forward 6 years (crap I’m getting old). I now live in New York City and instead of rebellion and grease, I enjoy fur stoles, red lipstick and platform shoes. Like I promised, this story has a point. The point is, the sun has not shown for several days now and it’s making my soul weep. What I would give for a tickle of Vitamin D on my skin, a trace of a sunray in my eyes, or a hint of light. I’m suddenly drowning in what my friend Blair and I have pegged as “winter blues.” Spending my lunch break reading old issues of The New Yorker and glumly listening to songs such as:

Depressed; by Nirvana,

Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now; by the Smiths, or

Lonely Feeling; by The Greenhornes

probably isn’t helping my cause. I’m sure it just takes getting used to. The last thing I want to do is offend New York City.

I love New York City.

Danggg. Emma Stone killed it at the Golden Globes. Her simple, creamsicle-toned Calvin Klein gown paired with her newly blonde hair looked absolutely stunning. Check her out in the silver Balenciaga dress too. I think I like her because she's from Arizona too and she convinced her parents to allow her to move to LA to pursue acting by means of a Power Point presentation. Who can say "no" to anyone that presents a case via powerpoint slideshow? Like, if a guy proposed to me via powerpoint slideshow and listed the reasons why I should marry him, I would know it was true love.

Although I missed the actual Golden Globes due to the fact that I don't have cable and spent the night watching football and drinking beer, (I never thought I would say that), but after browsing People for awhile, I decided I wasn't impressed with any of the other dresses. Which is a shame because why else watch award shows?

Angelina Jolie looked like an 80's pageant queen in her Atelier Versace gown, while Natalie Portman's Viktor & Rolf gown looked like a 1st grade Valentine's Day art project gone bad. I don't care if she's pregnant, there is really no excuse in my mind to pair pink and red. Carrie Underwood, Nicole Kidman, Lea Michele and Claire Danes all bore me.

But who am I to judge? I'm currently wearing tie-dyed leggings, moccasins, and a gray hoodie with my hair sticking in 7 directions as I type this... I can't imagine what my girls at Go Fug Yourself would say about me right now.

I’m not too sure why I’m posting pre-fall wear considering that I’m longing for summer right now. However I couldn’t help it when I saw these new looks by The Row. It’s all very basic pieces combining leather, neutral tones, Peter Pan collars etc. To be honest, it’s nothing that exciting, but classic things usually aren’t. I feel like I’ve been dressing like this since September so I’ve decided that come springtime I’m going to make an effort to incorporate more color into my wardrobe. I’m craving graphic/mixed prints, lightweight blouses and pants, bright tones. It’s still cold and snowy here in New York so for now I’ll stick to the basics.

I’m very happy that tomorrow is Friday and even happier that I don’t have to go back to work until Tuesday, (Shout out to MLK). Below is a detailed list of what I intend to do this weekend—in case anyone cares…

1) Spend an afternoon at the Museum of Modern Art

2) Search for a new floor lamp at thrift stores/flea markets in Brooklyn

3) Make the White Bean Veggie chili recipe that I’ve been putting off for weeks

4) Go see Blue Valentine

5) GYM

6) Hang pictures in living room

7) Call my Mom

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Down Home

Today was a typical Tuesday. I spent the majority of it e-mailing with my friend Blair. Our correspondence consisted of tantalizing topics such as the oncoming snowstorm; getting teeth cleaned, being insatiably hungry all day and the boy I have a crush on.

After work I dragged my butt to the gym where I proceeded to watch Down Home with the Neely's on The Food Network while on the elliptical. Aside from the oxymoronic fact that I watched them fry chicken while I exercised, I love this show because I think they are so full of shit. I don’t believe for one second that they not only have a loving marriage, but that they sensuously—almost sexually, cook together that way for real. Mrs. Neely can’t really believe that she holds onto her husband through means of her cooking. We all know that after his grilled peach with mascarpone, Mr. Neely leaves her with the dishes while he hits up the clubs with the models. But that’s just me…

I’m now going to spend the remainder of my already exciting day with a glass of red wine and Family Guy.

Love,

Abby

Daydreamer

Maison Martin Margiela boots, Elizabeth & James Blazer, Juicy Couture Cardigan, Karl Donoghhu Snood, H&M Fur Hat on me, J. Crew on model

I apologize to any Vegans, Vegetarians and/or Animal Rights Activists for this post. However, it's really cold in NYC and I unfortunately have come to the realization that I really like wearing fur... Fortunately for my conscience, I cannot afford the real thing so I have to resort to the faux stuff.

I spent today daydreaming.

I dreamt of being on a beach, somewhere tropical. I was wearing a new bikini, basking in the sunshine while drinking a fruity alcoholic beverage. I dreamt of snorkeling, bronze skin, cat-eye shaped sunglasses, and the soothing sounds of waves crashing on the shore. I dreamt of fish tacos and reggae music. I kept dreaming until 5 o'clock rolled around and I walked outside to encounter the bitter cold darkness that is New York City right now and I woke up.
